Kalalau Trail

A year ago, I almost died here. It was the only time I have ever seriously feared for my life while hiking. But maybe it was a mildly appropriate feeling to have when you are on your hands and knees with a giant pack frantically grasping mud and twigs for the purpose of avoiding slipping down a cliff into giant waves thunderously crashing into jagged rocks.
Due to a crazy torrential downpour, we decided to turn around which was unfortunately the less safe option. However without the knowledge of when the rain would cease, it seemed like the better plan when faced with getting stuck out at Kalalau for a few days when time was of the essence. Luckily, there was a naked guy running around the trail seeming like he was patting down the trail for us or maybe it was a rain dance...not sure, either way it seemed like a nice gesture.
Sad we didn't get to see the commune at Kalalau Beach. Next time, I would like to simply kayak out that way to check in with all the crazies being that I am still working on my Zombies of Kalalau screenplay.

Eroded section = Mudslide to your death in a winter storm.

Still an insanely beautiful trail.... wish I took more pictures
